For the past few years, I’ve challenged myself to reduce fabric waste by using scraps from my quilts. Last year, I made the Brick House Quilt.

My Brick House Quilt from 2022 features many collections I used throughout 2022 for my quilt projects ...

Shark! from Jean Swenson

Shark!
September 2022

Back in July, when Jocelyn over at Happy Cottage Quilter sent the baby quilt tops that I finished into Polka Party 1-4, she also sent a box stuffed full of scrap fabrics and remnant pieces. One of the remnant pieces was the shark fabric, which I thought was too cute to fussy cut, so I used it as bands at the top and bottom. I also used some blue scrap fabrics she had sent, and pulled a bunch of scappy blues from my scraps box to create the center section. The pieces to create the rows were ...

Where Pink Happens from Jean Swenson

Where Pink Happens
September 2022

Did you know that scientists question the existence of the color pink? I hadn’t really been looking for information on the topic of the color pink’s existence, but the internet seems to have many rabbit holes for one to fall into! It is actually quite a fascinating topic – one to tuck away for a potential conversation starter. My take away from the Scientific American article is that I’m quite happy that our brains provide us with the sensation of color, as pink has always been a favorite of mine. When my sisters ...

Pattern, Sale & BlogHop too! from Sew Preeti Quilts

I have so many things to share that I could just explode.
Breathe, breathe, just breathe, Paul said.

1. Topsy Turvy is now available as a stand alone pattern in my Etsy Store.

Topsy Turvy in Honeycomb Fabrics

I first made Topsy Turvy using the scraps left over from the Island Batik "Make it Modern" Blog Hop and Challenge.  Many refinements later, making it suitable for 2.5" precut strips, writing and rewriting and then correcting the pattern, Topsy Turvy is now available as a standalone pattern.

Here are a few more pictures.

Basting and Ironing

Topsy Turvy is a ...

Aprils Block ~ Baltimore Oriole from Quilt Doodle Doodles

It's April! Spring is around the corner, I'm sure of it! Or so I hope, we did have sleet and snow over the last couple of days and our driveway is a skating rink! I can only hope for warmer weather soon! I'm ready to break out the capri pants and flip flops, LOL!

This month's block is a special one, a Baltimore Oriole. My dad loved to see them visit, he always had grape jelly set out for them. My sister gets her Oriole's about two weeks before I see mine. I know when ...

Bloom
March 2022

This quilt will be donated as part of this year’s Hands2Help Challenge. This year, the challenge is being hosted by Mari over at The Academic Quilter. She will begin the sign-up process soon, so if you’re interested in joining this year’s challenge, check out her blog.

The backing fabric, shown here, is a Mary Engelbreit design from 2001, and has been living in my stash for about ten years now. I think the fabric is super cute, but every time I considered using it in a quilt, I was not sure how to cut ...

January 2022

Every Spring, I try to participate in the Hands2Help Challenge hosted by Sarah over at Confessions of a Fabric Addict @fabricaddictquilts. This year I decided to get a jump start on making baby quilts for this great cause. Since I was working to deplete my scraps bins with my recent Tod quilt, I kept the momentum going and made these yellow and blue log cabin blocks with “mostly” scraps. I say “mostly” because I was being a bit too fussy about the colorway, and did go into my stash for some of the blues and yellows. I ...

Tod from Jean Swenson

Tod
January 2022

While putting away my holiday scraps, I found that my reds bin was close to exploding. So, time for a red scrappy quilt! I kept this baby quilt super simple, patchworking 2″ blocks. As for the fox, I found a coloring page online, and then enlarged the image to the size I wanted, and traced directly from my monitor. I know all you techies are cringing, yes, it’s probably not good form to trace off a monitor, but I try to press only ‘very, very lightly’ </p>

Triple Play! Crumb Quilt, Carpenter’s Square, Full Circle from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

Quick! Gather your scraps! We’re making crumb quilts today!

When you truly love fabric – and I KNOW you do – you simply can’t toss away those beautiful bits and pieces; you have to make ‘em into something fabulous! So for this month’s Triple Play quilt tutorial, Jenny and the girls have whipped up 3 great crumb piecing projects.

Jenny’s crumb quilt is framed with a crumb-style piano key border, Natalie’s crumb-pieced Carpenter’s Square comes together just like a charm quilt, and Misty’s Full Circle quilt combines crumb piecing with the classic orange peel.

(I ...

The FREE Brick House Scrap Quilt Pattern is a great way to use leftover fabrics from your quilt projects to make a whole new quilt!

For the past few years, I’ve challenged myself to reduce fabric waste by using scraps from my quilts. Last year, I made ...

Sage and Sea Glass Stars from Appalachian Quilts

Another flimsy is a flimsy no more!  When Kim Diehl's Sage and Sea Glass Stars line came in, I just saw this design as a good way to show off all the fabrics in the line.  I love scrappy.  For whatever reason, this one just screamed farmhouse decor to me.  Maybe it is the muted colors.  This line didn't feel like a 'typical' Kim Diehl line, but I did love it!

It was fun matching up backgrounds for the star blocks, but I had to let me OCD go when I worked on the nine patches.  For a ...

Island Batik December Challenge from Sew Preeti Quilts

The guidelines for the Island Batik December Challenge were simple

  • Project Type: Any

  • Size: Minimum size 12” x12”

  • Any fabric

  • Technique: English Paper Piecing

And here is my simple response. This cutesy little table runner finished at 12" by 52".

Paul, the model

I used Island Batik Neutral Yolk for background (and binding) and various Island Batik fabrics to create the hexie flowers. Neither too big nor too small, I was going to name it Goldilocks but then...Paul suggested that it was "Too Hexie for My Table" and the name stuck.

Did you notice the touch of whimsy? It ...

From Miamas with Love from Sew Preeti Quilts

I have a new finish, a giveaway and an announcement. But first I must tell you about this book - "My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell you She is Sorry" by Frederik Backman.

My favorite!!!

Full of heart, hope and more...

Elsa, who is seven, (almost eight) had a bad day at school.  Three older girls tore her Gryffindor scarf and threw it in the toilet. The very same day, Elsa's Granny breaks into a zoo and throws turds at the police when approached.  The following conversation happens.

“I didn’t want you to remember this day because of the ...
